Horse of a Different Color

Horse of a Different Color

The love of art is nothing new, and neither is the love of seahorses. At Blue Water Pool Mosaics, we capture both

Some believe that seahorses are spirit animals (even though they are fish) representing loyalty, devotion, power, and balance (perhaps because a seahorse uses its tail to grab onto plants to balance itself and to prevent itself from being swept away). And because they are experts at camouflaging themselves for safety from predators, the seahorse is the perfect subject for a mosaic since it can change colors much like a chameleon.

Stones, shells, and ivory were likely the first mixed media used in mosaics in the 3rd millennium BC. Glazed stones are known to exist as far back as 1500. Stones, pebbles, stained glass, and shells are only a fraction of the materials used throughout the centuries to create breathtaking art.

Whether it’s the ancient art displayed on religious buildings or the modern media found in jewelry, the detail in mosaics is fascinating. The practice of arranging assorted pieces of fired clay, china, and other various textiles into murals and other eye-catching exhibits takes it from craft to art. Both the skilled and novice enjoy the freedom of self-expression made possible by mosaics.

Mosaics are found in a variety of places, from stained glass to art galleries. At Blue Water Pool Mosaics, we incorporate color into just about every corner of your life. And since our concentration is pool mosaics, what better way to enjoy art than to turn your pool into a piece of art?

For this reason, seahorse mosaics make total sense. The shape of the seahorse, with its square pieces along the spinal column, lends itself to the construction of mosaics.

Just as coffee table books are not the only means of enjoying mosaics, neither are mosaics confined to your pool.

Here are a few ideas for surrounding yourself with your seahorse spirit animal in the form of mosaics.

Table Top

Imagine serving your next pool party with a custom-designed buffet table complete with seahorses swimming between the cheese and crackers. But don’t try to catch one! Since they are monogamous, these fish are happiest in pairs and don’t survive long on their own. At Blue Water Pool Mosaics, we are excited about our seahorses and know you will be, too.

A table is a perfect place for a ceramic mosaic; not only is it a natural centerpiece, but it’s also easy to clean and acts as a tablecloth.

Trivet

In case you were thinking of setting a pitcher of iced tea directly onto your mother’s handmade coffee table, think again. Do you prefer a hug goodbye at the end of the evening, or a lecture on water stains?

Our thoughts exactly, which is why we suggest you consider using a trivet. Did you know that a ceramic tile mosaic is a trivet with an updo?

Shower

Who among us doesn’t need a midnight stroll to the bathroom? Not only is it dark and you hate getting out of bed, but tripping over the kids’ toys is an invitation to the rehabilitation wing at the hospital. Why not let our seahorse light the path? Place one of our glow-in-the-dark designs on your shower door and let your spirit animal guide the way.

Garden Stones

We know that a mosaic is an art, but so is gardening. Did you know that mosaic stepping stones are like rolling out the welcome mat? And the good news is you don’t have to water them.

Why not add some creative color to your plants and landscaping for a splash of botanical beauty? Release your serotonin and up your garden game. Go ahead, add a bench; you’re going to want to sit a spell.

Birdbath

What good is a birdbath covered in green moss when you can have one covered in watercolors? A birdbath painted with a vibrant mosaic is a statement piece. Won’t it be fun watching your feathered friends splashing around in their little basin?

Stained Glass Window Hangers

Some things look incredible in the sunlight. Such is the purpose of a stunning suncatcher; it catches the rays in its reflection, illuminating all who enter. The seahorse gallops through the water. Imagine your seahorse mosaic suncatcher greeting your guests.

Other Options

Are you looking to spruce up your foyer? There’s a seahorse for that. How about your sunroom? Yes, there’s a mosaic for that too. And your backsplash. Your garage; your laundry room work table. And whatever else you can think up.

Swimming Pool

Go ahead, jump in. Dive into the water and ride the waves with the seahorse of your dreams. Decorate your pool with our fiberglass and ceramic, and deck out the lanai with radiant colors rippling in the breeze.

There are endless ways to decorate with mosaics and countless reasons for using them. Perhaps a friend is grieving the loss of a beloved pet and needs a pick-me-up. Or maybe you’d relish a backyard getaway.

Whether you’re having coffee on the porch, listening to chirping birds, or watching the kids splashing around in the backyard pool, there’s always a reason for adding a splash of color.

Our seahorse mosaics are as different as you are, a reflection of you.

Whatever the reason, whatever the season, there’s a mosaic for you. Call us today at Blue Water Pool Mosaics and bring your spirit animal home.
