Country Time Poolside

With the natural movement of the water, a pool mosaic flag waves like it’s blowing in a gentle breeze. You can’t help but look at it in awe. Perhaps no other mosaic design resonates with American pool owners like that of the American flag.

This quote from Henry Ward Beecher explains why Americans are so obsessed with our symbol of freedom:

“A thoughtful mind when it sees a nation’s Flag, sees not the Flag, but the nation itself. And whatever may be its symbols, its insignia, he reads chiefly in the Flag, the government, the principles, the truths, the history that belongs to the nation that sets it forth. The American Flag has been a symbol of Liberty and men rejoiced in it.”

Over 225 years have passed since the American flag became a symbol of freedom and justice. The flag has served as a warning sign to foes during wars and assurances to friends during peacetime. As a symbol of our nation, power, and glory, the American Flag captures it all.

Did you know that you have protection under federal law from being fined for displaying the United States flag? Notice it doesn’t say “flying” the American flag. It says “displaying,” which leaves room for creative interpretation. That’s good news for those who have a backyard oasis.

If you have a loved one in the military, imagine how touched they would be to see a mosaic flag in your pool. With magnificent valor, you can celebrate service to their country in honor of your loved one with a beautiful pool mosaic every day.

Responsibility and devotion to the country is the hallmark of our flag. The Continental Congress introduced our country’s first flag on June 14, 1777, which is celebrated every year on June 14.

Artistry in the Flag, Artistry in Mosaics

The American flag is a brilliant design of thirteen horizontal stripes on today’s flag, seven red and six white. The stripes represent the thirteen original colonies, while the stars represent each state in the Union.

While artists don’t always get their due, it is safe to say that the flag has enjoyed a presence in all kinds of mediums—watercolors, oils, ceramics, fabrics, and more. Our flag has appeared in clothing, canvas, face painting, and yes, even mosaics.

Just about anything you can think up can be turned into a mosaic; that’s what makes it so much fun. Whether they’re made from torn paper or the most intricate broken china pieces or it’s a mural on the side of a building, mosaics have their place in the party. And because anyone can do it, there’s no limit to the unique possibilities.

Perhaps one of the most fascinating reasons for participating in mosaic art is building something appealing from something broken. When you think about it, broken things cannot always be put back together again – but sometimes they can, and that’s the beauty of it.

When we consider the flag, one of the things we want most is wholeness, and that’s what mosaics do – taking pieces and bonding them. What could be more American than that? It’s all about unity in our differences. Americans are not all the same but we can coexist, which may be why America is called a melting pot.

Holidays and Mosaic Days

According to the American Legion, there are certain holidays when the flag should be displayed:

  • New Year’s Day, January 1
  • Inauguration Day, January 20
  • Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday
  • Lincoln’s Birthday, February 12
  • Washington’s Birthday
  • Easter Sunday (variable)
  • Mother’s Day

Of course, this is just a guideline. You can think up any reason you want to make every day into Flag Day.

Why not add a flag mosaic to your holiday decorations if you’re running a hotel or resort? While there’s nothing wrong with hanging a wreath with a red, white, and blue ribbon or small flags stuck in flower arrangements, why not do the unexpected?

A Drop-In U.S.A. Flag Pool Mat From Blue Water Pool Mosaics will cost you $179.00 and it’s a lovely conversation starter for special events such as pool parties, hotels, and corporate events.

Appropriate for indoor and outdoor use, our 60″ x 30″removable mats are a cinch to install: pick a spot, let them sink to the bottom of the pool, and you’ve got an instant wow factor for Veteran’s Day, July 4th, and Flag Day. Or any day!

Please be aware that the drop-in mat is 1/8 thick vinyl, not tile. So, while it is not a permanent fixture, it can be valuable to your holiday decoration collection.

You can say anything you want about our country, but when it comes to how we feel about the flag, there’s not much wiggle room. You need only look around you. You’ll see T-shirts with flags, mailboxes with patriotic colors, and water bottles decorated for the occasion.

Our flag doesn’t just stand for freedom; it stands for one nation. It stands for us.
